What is the Momentum Clinical Trial?
The MOMENTUM Clinical Trial is evaluating a new investigational device, the Cancion® System, for its ability to treat patients hospitalized with decompensated heart failure who inadequately respond to medical therapy. Patients enrolled in the trial will be treated with the device and medical therapy or may be treated with medical therapy alone so physicians can compare the outcomes between those patients treated with the device and those without.
The trial is enrolling patients who have been treated for heart failure for at least a month, require hospitalization for their acute decompensation and are not responding adequately following at least 24 hours of drug therapy. Results from the Cancion System Feasibility Study were published in Circulation (2005;112:3107-3114 ) and reported a significant improvement in hemodynamics that was still present after treatment with the Cancion System. The feasibility data warranted further study of the device and the MOMENTUM Trial was designed to evaluate the risks and benefits of the Cancion System in patients hospitalized with decompensated heart failure.
